Planetary Info

Early History

When first settled, Rio was a beautiful world covered in scenic valleys. With little to export, the world instead became known as a prime vacation spot, artists colony, and tri-vid production planet. In 2223 the world joined[1] - or was conquered by, depending on the historical account cited[2] - the Tikonov Union, and when that power merged into the Capellan Confederation, Rio separated and joined the Terran Hegemony. It would become one of the largest centers of fine art, high-end tourism, and film making in the first Star League.[1]

The planet has two continents Grando and Pequeno, the planetary capital is located on Grando.[1]

The Succession Wars

After the fall of the first Star League, the Capellan Confederation and Draconis Combine fought to take the world. The Confederation won in 2806, but only by using nuclear weapons. The radiation forced most of the population to flee, and in the end the Confederation had taken control of a dead world. This would later be a problem as the Federated Suns realized the system's valuable strategic position for raiding the Confederation. For most of the Succession Wars the AFFS used the world as a strategic jump-off point for raids into the Confederation. In 2980 the CCAF attempted to conquer the world with a large fleet of AeroSpace Fighters and other aerospace assets, but the fleet was soundly defeated. This defeat triggered a reorganization of the CCAF's aerospace arm.[1]

The Jihad

A member of the Word of Blake Protectorate during the Jihad, Rio was one of the first worlds to be scouted by the allied coalition forged by Devlin Stone; scouts raided Rio and a number of other Protectorate worlds on the 25th of March 3076.[38][39] This was followed with an assault by coalition forces on the 1st of July. The allied assault on Rochelle was one of four planetary assaults on Protectorate worlds that took place simultaneously, with the other assault forces targetting the Al Na'ir, Rochelle and Van Diemen IV systems.[40][41]
