Planetary Info

First settled in after 2341 but before 2499, Cebalrai was originally settled as a "rest stop" for travelers and colonists heading to other worlds. The planet itself has little to offer to settlers, having a thin atmosphere that lets large amounts of solar radiation through. To combat this, the early settlers raised reflective domes and screens over their cities. Though nuclear weapons were used on the world extensively during the Age of War, depopulating the world before 2499, Star League engineers were able to restore the planet's ecosphere and remove the radiation from the water and air. This allowed the inhabitants of Cebalrai to thrive.[1]

Even the Succession Wars didn't inflict much damage on the world. The world saw some battles between the Lyran Commonwealth and Draconis Combine, but nothing to match the nuclear holocaust of the Age of War.[1] When the Word of Blake attacked Cebalrai in mid-May 3069 they conquered the world in a conventional campaign fought with a mixture of Blakist troops and hired mercenaries, soon incorporating the world into the Word of Blake Protectorate.[12]

Cebalrai remained a part of the Word of Blake Protectorate until the planet was targetted by Clan Ghost Bear in August 3075. The Ghost Bears landed forces from their Omicron Galaxy on Cebalrai in mid-August, with the initial landings on Lennori being conducted by the Sixth-ninth Provisional Garrison Cluster and the First and Seventh Bear Regulars.[23]

Having established landing zones the Ghost Bear forces swiftly pushed the Blakist forces off the continent of Lennori and continued to pursue them across Sarrina, a pursuit that culminated in a bloody three-day campaign to seize control of New Wade, the capital city of Cebalrai. New Wade was secured by the Ghost Bears on the 18th of August and the government re-established; concerns about rogue Blakist units and supporters led to the First Bear Regulars remaining in place to both act as guards and recuperate from their losses.[23]

The Seventh Bear Regulars and the Sixty-ninth PGC continued to harry the retreating Cebalrai Protectorate Militia and their supporting mercenary forces, pursuing them back to Dragga, where the Blakists still controled the three main cities. The main Blakist strength was at Kamrin, a heavily industrial city, and the Ghost Bear forces were driving deep into the city when the Blakists acted out of desperation and detonated a chain of five neutron bombs that had been concealed under the city. The results were devastating for the Seventh Regulars and the Sixty-ninth PGC, who were collectively reduced to just a handful of survivors.[23][24][25]

With the Ghost Bears still in control of the bulk of Cebalrai the Tenth Provisional Garrison Cluster was deployed to the planet to secure Dragga, a campaign that took until at least the 23rd of August;[23] even with the Blakists annihilated,[1] the casualties inflicted on the Seventh Regulars and the Sixty-ninth PGC were such that Omicron Galaxy halted offensive operations temporarily to reassess the campaign and attempt to recover its strength.[23]

The Republic of the Sphere established a memorial to the Ghost Bears who died liberating the world. A huge sculpture of a Ghost Bear, carved from obsidian, stands in the center of Kamrin, the location of the final conflict between the Ghost Bears and the Blakists.[1]

Notes

It was confirmed by the Line Developers that Cebalrai was colonised, depopulated and then repopulated between 2341 and 2499:

The planet was founded after 2341, but before 2499, was depopulated during the Age of War, and repopulated during the Star League.
