Test of Vengeance, by Bryan Nystul, follows ristar Elemental Jake Kabrinski during the Combine-Ghost Bear War, and the sudden assault by Clan Hell's Horses.
The novel was made available on BattleCorps on 02 April 2011 as a PDF file (text only, without cover, pictures, or any other interior artwork except for the usual BattleCorps frame graphics). The PDF copy includes a disclaimer stating that it was created from a pre-final edition text that might differ from the printed version and that canon-wise, the print edition trumps the PDF edition.

The book centers on ristar Jake Kabrinski and his service with Clan Ghost Bear during the onset of the FedCom Civil War.
It begins with a battle between Clan Hell's Horses, Clan Snow Raven, and Clan Ghost Bear on the planet Bearclaw. Khan Malavai Fletcher of Clan Hell's Horses is ambushed by Ghost Bear Elementals led by Jake Kabrinski. Fletcher uses his Gnome battle armor's superior range to kill the Ghost Bear Star Commander, but the Ghost Bear Elementals are able to use their superior mobility to stall the Gnomes until Snow Raven air support drives them into a retreat.
