The Joppa system was first settled by the Star League Defense Force during the Periphery Uprising of 2765–2766, when they established a minor waystation on Joppa IV's moon Specula and a colony on Joppa II to support it.[1]

The star map in the apocryphal BattleTech video game, set in 3025, stated that the only permanent settlement in the Joppa system was in a repurposed SLDF station on Specula, a moon orbiting a gas giant. Specula had no resources of its own, but served as a trade hub for the nearby systems.[55]
