The Ramsau system, specifically the inhabited planet Ramsau III and its sole moon Gordo (Ramsau III-A), are described in some detail in the now-apocryphal short story Decompression (and accompanying scenario "On the Shores of a Sea on Gordo") in BattleTechnology, Issue #0201:

Ramsau III is described as a large cold desert with ice across half the planet, a day six times longer than it ought to be (the tidally locked moon circles the world in "a hair over 140 hours"), and a 70-hour night cycle. The local plant life is inedible, and foods therefore have to be imported or grown in huge underground hydroponics facilities with artificial lighting. As of 3027 there was a lone population center named Sauton, close to the equator, with hydroponics farms clustered around it. Seen from its moon, Ramsau III was a vast, white-on-blue globe. Cloud cover was said to be a rarity due to relatively thin air.

The single moon Ramsau III-A aka Gordo is tidally locked and thus always in the sky above Sauton. Gordo is nearly 4,000 km in diameter (with over 12,500 km circumference), and close to Ramsau III, less than 140,000 km away. Its surface gravity is around 0.2 g. As of 3027, the Draconis Combine maintained a Command, Control & Communication facility called Gordo Alpha on the airless moon that could easily observe Sauton and the entire planetary hemisphere of Ramsau III via radar and (implicitly) also optical surveillance.

In October of 3027 the Lyran Commonwealth attempted a deep-strike mission (carried out wholly or at least chiefly by the Star Warriors mercenary unit) against Ramsau III, aiming to destroy the hydroponic facilities and thus tie up significant Draconis Combine shipping power that would then be required for food shipments. The plan failed when stronger-than-anticipated resistance stalled the attack and the Gordo Alpha base could not be destroyed, causing the invading forces to retreat without having accomplished their goal of damaging the infrastructure.

Star League Era[edit]

Ramsau was one of the planets to rise up in rebellion in response to Operation CATALOG, a wide-ranging operation conducted by the Lyran Commonwealth government to detect and disrupt interstellar criminal gangs operating within the Commonwealth. The Eighteenth Arcturan Guards put the rebellion down by enforcing martial law on Ramsau in an effective - if inflexible - manner.[42]

Fourth Succession War[edit]

Ramsau was captured in the opening wave of Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, the major Lyran Commonwealth offensive of the Fourth Succession War,[18] by the Twenty-third Arcturan Guards.[43]

Clan Invasion[edit]

In one of the last battles of Operation Revival, Ramsau was invaded by the Green Keshik and Dorbeng Garrison Cluster of Clan Wolf in April 3052. The planet's only defenders was the 1st Ramsau Irregulars, a regiment of mostly civilian volunteers and a few aged veterans. Lacking skill but not courage they fought against the Clan invaders at Asab, Lupani and Aminuis, who simply didn't have the heart to do more than defend themselves against the Irregulars' attacks. Negotiations for the planet's surrender eventually concluded and allowed the Wolf warriors to spare the Irregulars' lives with no loss of honor for either side.[44]
