Though Carsphairn is a beautiful world, the severe weather caused by the three large moons in orbit insures that only the hardiest colonists could survive. The tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, and ice storms discouraged many settlers, but the arable land would grow transplanted crops and the native fauna were a good food source as well. These advantages, along with the landscapes, encouraged many settlers to stay. The Carsphairnians reject skyscrapers (which are dangerous in the world's high winds) preferring to build low structures close to ground level. Big farms and other large land areas are enclosed in weather-repelling domes.[1]

Over time the world became part of the Lyran Commonwealth, but considered itself a member of the Federation of Skye first and Lyran second. It's location several jumps away from any borders insured that it survived most of the Succession Wars intact. In fact it wasn't until the Jihad that the world saw any enemy troops. The Word of Blake landed several times to acquire food for their troops.[1]

After the Republic of the Sphere formed, the garrison on the world was staffed with members of Clan Wolf, the Lyran Commonwealth, and the Draconis Combine.[1]

The capital city, Narcisse, is a large seaport city as well as having a large spaceport. Ships from the seaport link the city to the other four continents: Basallia, North Teslia, South Teslia, and Yddrig. The primary continent is named Gillinia.[1]

Notes

Some sources from the Dark Age timeline erroneously refer to this system as "Carsphaim". This has officially been declared to be a misspelling; the correct official name is Cairsphairn.[29]
