First Succession War
The Capellan Confederation annexed New Canton in 2784, part of a series of annexations that added fifteen former Terran Hegemony worlds to the Confederation while the Hegemony was collapsing immediately before the First Succession War erupted.[11][37] In late 2787 Captain-General Kenyon Marik launched an invasion of the Confederation, intent on capturing a corridor of worlds leading to Sarna. Having quickly seized Corey and Wazan, the Free Worlds League faced a two-year struggle to hold both worlds as the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces attempted to get reinforcements to both worlds. Chancellor Barbara Liao ordered an attack on New Delos, a major Free Worlds League Military staging ground, which disrupted supply lines, communications and repair facilities and killed twenty thousand civilians.[38]
In retaliation – and in an attempt to disrupt the flow of reinforcements to Corey and Wazan – Kenyon Marik ordered attacks on a number of Capellan worlds including New Canton that saw the planets firebombed.[38][39] In the case of New Canton, the firebombing was conducted between April and August 2789[40] using a task force that consisted of two Carrack-class transports that had been converted into aerospace fighter carriers, escorted by a pair of Atreus-class battleships, the FWLS Kanata and FWLS Majestic, and a pair of League-class destroyers, the FWLS Andria and FWLS Avellino.[39] The attacks continued until the Capellans were forced on the defensive following a failed attack on Calloway VI in 2789.[38][39]
Fourth Succession War
New Canton was targeted in the third wave of Operation Rat, with both regiments of the Screaming Eagles mercenaries and ten garrison regiments landed to deal with two CCAF battalions – the first battalion of the Fourth Confederation Reserve Cavalry and the third battalion of Trimaldi's Secutors – as well as the local militia.[41]
The Capellans put up a strong resistance, inflicting significant losses before they could be finished off. Two particular incidents were very damaging to the reputation of the Screaming Eagles. After capturing the remains of the Fourth Confederation Cavalry battalion when a bridge trapped them with their backs to the Canton River, Colonel Opson Mathis of the First Screaming Eagles ordered the Capellan cockpits welded closed and pushed the 'Mechs, MechWarriors inside, into the river to drown. Colonel Robert Garcia of the Third Almach Foot Soldiers demanded Mathis' surrender, which he received after the other Screaming Eagles abandoned Mathis.[41]
On the other continent, two regiments of Almach infantry were airlifted to close a key pass in the Blue Dragon Mountains to prevent the retreat of the Secutors for six hours, long enough for the Screaming Eagles' second regiment to finish off the Capellans. Due to suicide attacks by Capellan tanks, it took six days for the Eagles to relieve the infantry, who suffered heavy losses.[42]

The Jihad
The Word of Blake annexed New Canton early in the Jihad and declared the planet to be a part of the Word of Blake Protectorate under their total control in August 3071. Data recovered late in the Jihad showed that the Blakist proclamation was somewhat precipitous; Stalwart Support, a conventional infantry regiment under the command of Colonel Sanders, went to ground on New Canton and offered stiff and continued resistance for two years until the last of the unit was destroyed in 3073. The infantry platoons within Stalwart Support were particularly fond of using TAG spotter infantry and heavy foot LRM infantry in combination with heavy cover to inflict disproportionate amounts of damage on the Blakist units garrisoning the world.[44]
Dark Age
After the Republic of the Sphere was established, New Canton served as capital of Prefecture VI.[45] During the first Capellan-Republic War in the 3080s, New Canton was briefly reclaimed by the Capellan Confederation. The world was subsequently retaken by three Hastati Sentinels regiments, in a battle which saw the Fourth MAC almost wiped out and its commander Faith McCarron slain.[46]
Following the Blackout of 3132 New Canton rejoined the Capellan Confederation during Operation GREAT FLOOD, when the Third Liao Guards dislodged the RAF defenders.[47]
New Canton was one of several Capellan worlds hit by Julian Davion's Task Force Navarre in 3146, with the raiders easily beating its Home Guard and making off with supplies. The attackers avoided civilian targets, except for various monuments dedicated to Chanceller Daoshen Liao.[48][49]
