Planet(s)7[1]

The Azha system is home to at least one habitable world, Azha IV, and as of 3151 was located in the Tikonov Commonality of the Capellan Confederation.[2]

System Description[edit]

The Azha system is located near the Arboris and Slocum systems[3][4] and consists of a class K8IV primary orbited by seven planets, at least one of which is habitable.[1]

System History[edit]

The Azha system was settled during or shortly after the First Exodus from Terra and in the years immediately before the founding of the Capellan Confederation was fought over by the Sarna Supremacy and the Tikonov Grand Union.[5][1]

Azha IV - more commonly referred to simply as Azha - is the fourth planet in the Azha system.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

By the 2350s the Tikonov Grand Union - of which Azha was a member - was experiencing severe turmoil due to internal economic problems and external conflicts. Having lost a war with the Terran Hegemony over the worlds of the Chisholm Protectorate in the late 2330s,[43] the Grand Union then found itself battling the Federated Suns in the 2340s.[5] The nearby Sarna Supremacy looked to capitalize on the Grand Union's problems by annexing various Grand Union worlds, initiating a brutal two-year war.[5] Azha suffered badly in the war,[1] and in 2358, the new president of the Capellan Commonality, Seluk Tucas, declared himself the arbitrator of the dispute between the Supremacy and the Grand Union and awarded ownership of several worlds including Azha to the Supremacy;[6] despite this, by 2366 Azha would be a member of the Tikonov Grand Union again.[7]

Succession Wars[edit]

Azha was very important to the CCAF because even though it's a small world it possesses an excellent strategic location. The Strategios placed Procurement Division offices that served the Tikonov and Sarna Commonalities on Azha. Though it has enough farmland to support its population, the world still had to import foodstuffs for visitors and guests. The near desert environment made it difficult to farm, but the vast stores of minerals and metals beneath the surface gave birth to a thriving electronics industry.[1]

The main continent, Castellan, holds the planetary capital of Casella. The CCAF warehouses are located in this city. The smaller continents are Brasilia (to the south) and Ortega. Brasilia is the location for most of Azha's farms. Ortega is abandoned, and has been since the Tikonov-Sarna War that happened between 2351 and 2352. The sheer amount of damage inflicted by the war marked it as a haunted place that no one dares venture into.[1]

The Jihad[edit]

The Word of Blake did apparently land on the world, but didn't stay long. The local militia unit set out to face the Blakists, but vanished. No trace of them was ever found.[1] During the last two weeks of October 3069 the Word of Blake launched a fresh wave of planetary assaults, further expanding the borders of the Word of Blake Protectorate. The assaults saw a number of new planets incorporated into the Protectorate, often after the threat - or use - of orbital bombardment or biological, chemical or nuclear weapons to destroy local defenses; Azha was one of the worlds brought into the Protectorate in this fashion.[33]

Dark Age[edit]

Incorporated into the Republic of the Sphere, Azha was left outside of Fortress Republic when the Wall went up in 3135. In January the next year the Capellan Confederation moved to reclaim the world. A small mercenary unit known as the Past Knights opposed them, holding a critical bridge near Naples and downing several Capellan tanks and 'Mechs before they were beaten.[40][41]

Planetary Rulers[edit]

  • Planetary Governor Lynn Torsello[1]
  • Planetary Legate Kay Veigel[1]

Military Deployment[edit]

Geography[edit]

Azha has three major continents. The largest continent on Azha is named Castellan; the other two continents, Brasilia and Ortega, are smaller than Castellan. Brasilia is located north of Castellan.[1]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Casella: the planetary capital city, located on Castellan.[1]
  • Naples: One of the cities of the planet.[45]
