Planetary History

Star League

During the final years of the Star League, Constance was the host to a Star League Defense Force garrison.[32] The base name may be been SLDF CON-3, Forward Base Raphael or that may be just a section of the complex.[33]

Ronin War

While no fighting occurred on Constance during the Ronin War, it was the destination for a pro-Combine militia force from Svelvik. After the Freedom Proclamation was issued in March 3034 followed by the death of Ivan Sorenson, the Svelvik militia loaded everything it could carry into its dropships and made its way to Constance.[34]

Operation REVIVAL

In April 3050 Constance was attacked by Clan Ghost Bear during the First Wave of Operation REVIVAL. The 68th Striker Cluster was tasked with conquering the planet, then defended by the Honor Guard, a garrison force of five BattleMech companies and two regiments of armor. With major confrontations taking place at Cedar Groves and Harmond Hills, the defenders used every trick in the book to defeat the Clan invaders in this savage battle, including poisoning the general water supply on the assumption the Ghost Bears did not have their own reserves. Star Colonel Chou Vong labeled the Honor Guard dezgra after this incident and used it as an excuse to call down his entire Cluster to finish the battle quickly. However the Honor Guard's use of guerrilla tactics denied this swift victory as both sides resorted to ambushes and other devious tactics. The Honor Guard's elite armor regiments were finally hunted down over the course of five days of attrition fighting.[35]

First Combine-Dominion War

During the First Combine-Dominion War (October 3062-December 3063), the Ghost Bears Fifth Bear Regulars attacked the Richmond system which left their base world of Constance mostly unguarded. Elements of the Second Sword of Light then launched an attack that seized Constance for the Combine. This forced the Fifth Bear Regulars to abandon their gains in Richmond to reclaim Constance for the Ghost Bear Dominion. While the Second Sword of Light's attack achieved their objective of pulling forces away from the front, the Second suffered heavy losses in that resulting fighting.[36][37][38]

The Jihad

In March 3076 Constance was the second of four Ghost Bear Dominion worlds to be raided by Clan Ice Hellion stragglers after the failed Ice Hellion invasion of the Clan Jade Falcon Occupation Zone several years before.[24][25]

Dark Age

Constance was the site of the Vacaville Slaughter in November 3120 when a group of rebels seized the capital and a Trinary from the 56th PGC was dispatched to crush the revolt. This was accomplished when a Vulture Nova, pursuing the rebels into the Vacaville subdivision, finally resorted to bombarding the entire town. The majority of the civilian population was killed; only afterwards were the rebels found to have committed mass suicide beforehand.[39]
