Planetary History[edit]
Exodus[edit]
By 2296, Ford marked one edge of the area of space within which the interstellar trade company Skye Traders was the dominant commercial interest, an area which in 2299 would form the basis of the new interstellar nation founding by Ian McQuiston of Skye, the Federation of Skye.[5]
Star League Era[edit]
During the Star League era, Ford was notable for the presence of the Ford Military Limited plant on the planet. At least one of the units assigned to garrison the planet and protect the factories, the Twentieth Arcturan Guards, requested a transfer despite the importance of guarding the industrial facilities because of the difficulty the unit personnel had adjusting to Ford's forty-hour day/night cycle.[39]
First Succession War[edit]
Ford was one of a number of Lyran Commonwealth border worlds to be struck by a devastating cross-border raids by the Free Worlds League between 2786 and 2790, as the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces began to crack under the pressure of continuing efforts to annex the Bolan Thumb while also attempting to maintain a defensive posture against both the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery and the Free Worlds League Military.[40]
Third Succession War[edit]
In 2976 FWLM forces transported only by Leopard and Union-Class DropShips tried to seize the planet but where met with heavy resistance and were unable to deliver a sufficient number of troops and finally retreated.[17]
At some point during the Third Succession War, the Free Worlds League seized control of Ford. In 3015, Lyran forces retook Ford in response to Marik seizing Megrez.[18]
In April 3022, the Third Sirian Lancers raided Ford. However, the Ford Planetary Militia, or an unknown unit painted and marked as the Planetary Militia, laid several ambushes and prevented any serious damage from taking place. It was theorized that perhaps there has been an intelligence breach which had warned the Lyrans of the attacking Marik forces. The Militia then overran the Lancers drop zone in the Attore Bluff and forced them off world. Days later, one lone Free Worlds League MechWarrior who had been left behind single-handedly raided a munitions plant near the city of Gunster and caused serious damage.[41]
It was noted in 3025 that Ford was a popular port for traders entering the Free Worlds League.[42]
Fourth Succession War[edit]
In October 3028, the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces repositioned a number of frontline units as the Free Worlds League Military launched Operation DAGGER. One of the units repositioned was the mercenary unit Gregg's Long Striders, who were relocated from Ford to Gienah; the LCAF strategic intent wasn't to prevent a League invasion, but rather to make invading forces pay more dearly for any gains and slow the progress of any breakthrough.[43]
The Jihad[edit]
Following the invasion of the Free Worlds League by the Skye and Bolan Provinces of the Lyran Alliance in what was termed Operation ÜBERSCHATTEN, Marshall Jeremy Brett took command of the local FWLM and launched a counteroffensive, under the name Operation BROKEN FIST. BROKEN FIST went beyond simply attempting to recapture worlds that the Lyrans had seized, striking into Lyran space at numerous worlds. Ford was one of the worlds hit and was attacked by the League forces on the 2nd of September 3068.[28]
