System Description[edit]

Dieudonné is located near the Chertan and Dubhe systems[2][3] and consists of a class F3V primary orbited by at least two planets.[1]

System History[edit]

The Dieudonné system was colonized during the First Exodus from Terra.[4]

Dieudonné II, more commonly known simply as Dieudonné, is the second planet in the system and has five moons named École, Marie Theresa, Mary, Runes, and San Palo.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Age of War[edit]

Dieudonné possessed extensive mineral wealth, and the native lifeforms were tasty and nutritious. These were the leading reasons that the world was settled, and these exports provided much of the world's economy. The world's location at the intersection of three realms—Terran Hegemony, Lyran Commonwealth, and Free Worlds League—insured that the three powers would constantly squabble over who had the rights to the world. Eventually the Terran Hegemony was made the administrator and placed numerous SLDF facilities on the world.[1]

One of the early battles for control of Dieudonné was fought in 2416, when the Lyran Commonwealth tried to seize control of Dieudonné from the Free Worlds League. The response of the Free Worlds League parliament was to recall Peter Marik to service as Captain-General, and the resulting short military campaign saw Peter capture several Lyran border worlds before the 2418 armistice ended the attacks.[6]

Star League[edit]

Elements of the Thirty-fifth Royal CAAN Marine Regiments aerospace fighter contingent engaged and destroyed a pirate DropShip over the ocean in 2764.[62]

Amaris Civil War and Succession Wars[edit]

The Amaris Civil War destroyed most of the SLDF complexes on the world, and during the Succession Wars the planet changed hands several times, moving back and forth between the Commonwealth and the League,[1] beginning with the Free Worlds League annexation of Dieudonné in 2783.[21] In the 2850s the FWLM brought the world completely into the League. By 2912, the LCCC recognized the world's strategic position by making it the command center for all operations in the Terran region. The FWLM headquarters building is named New Bastogne, and is heavily fortified to survive a siege or direct assault. In the face of this military might, other factions started to use intelligence agents to explore the world and exploit any opening. SAFE had identified agents of the LIC, MIIO, and Maskirovka on the world by the mid-thirty-first century.[1]

The Lyran Commonwealth launched a notable attempt to capture Dieudonné in 3011, dispatching a force from the Arcturan Guards along with the mercenary unit Snord's Irregulars, under the overall command of Colonel Arthur Flade. Cranston Snord had volunteered the Irregulars for the mission in hopes of recovering the sacred Tome of Rigo, which he believed to be hidden on Dieudonné. Flade was openly disdainful of the Irregulars and went out of his way to make sure they drew the most dangerous assignments while under his command. During the attack they were dropped off-target, landing in the middle of the Jarvis Military Proving and Training Grounds, an area surrounded by a heavy minefield. Present at the Proving Grounds at the time were a veteran infantry regiment accompanied by a number of supporting 'Mechs. The Irregulars had to fight their way past several veteran units to link up with the Arcturan Guards in the intended drop zone, several kilometers away. Colonel Flade had proclaimed Snord's Irregulars lost immediately after the drop and later accused them of having gone astray to go looting. This led to a falling-out between Flade and Cranston Snord who believed, but could not prove, that Flade had deliberately ordered the Irregulars be dropped off-target, and Snord refused to work with Flade in any future operations.[31]

The Jihad[edit]

In August 3077 allied forces fighting for the coalition as a part of Operation SCOUR were forced to retreat to Dieudonné after the Word of Blake launched a counteroffensive to recapture the nearby world of Marcus.[63]
