Planetary History[edit]
Early History[edit]
In the years immediately prior to the so-called Age of War, Promised Land became known for the quality of its champagne as far as Arcturus, capital of the newly formed Lyran Commonwealth. When Archon Robert Marsden offhandedly remarked he would not mind drinking a glass of Promised Land's champagne in 2395, the rabidly loyal and supremely overconfident Social Generals selected by Marsden to command the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces willfully misinterpreted the Archon's comment to mean he wanted to capture the world.[38]
By the time Marsden learned of the Promised Land assault, it was too late, with ten LCAF regiments wiped out, including two elite ranked jump infantry and armored vehicle regiments. Instead of blaming their own impetuosity, the LCAF high command directed blame towards Marsden for "ordering" the disaster. Three weeks after news of the massacre on Promised Land broke, Archon Robert Marsden was found dead in his bedchambers.[38]
Third Succession War[edit]
By the Third Succession War, Promised Land was one of the major ports of entry for Lyran traders entering League space, the city closest to the planet's primary spaceport containing a magnificent bazaar teeming with an endless array of merchants, wholesalers and speculators.[39]
The thirty-first century was a peaceful era for Promised Land, with the only notable conflict taking place in 3056 when a pro-Lyran coup attempt ended with the destruction of part of the planetary militia by the Third Fusiliers of Oriente. Though subdued, anti-League sentiment remained among the population.[31][40]
With the Free Worlds League's balkanization in the late 3070s, Promised Land joined the Duchy of Tamarind-Abbey simply due to shared history and proximity. However trade and cultural disputes with the Duchy government led to Promised Land's desire to transfer its allegiance to the Lyran Commonwealth instead, and in 3101 with local assistance the LCAF seized the planet with minimal effort.[31]
Dark Age[edit]
In November 3137 during Operation HAMMERFALL, Kirkpatrick's Invaders, a mercenary unit employed by the Lyrans, destroyed Avanti's Angels on Promised Land. It is unknown if the world had returned to Tamarind-Abbey control at this point.[41] After HAMMERFALL abruptly ended in 3140 with Clan Wolf turning upon its erstwhile ally, the Duchy—now part of the restored Free Worlds League—took advantage of the Commonwealth's crisis to reclaim Promised Land.[34]
