Planetary Info

Saffel is a cold world. When first discovered by humanity, the world had just entered an ice age. The first colonists landed on the northern continent, which they named Dovejin, and planned to mine the mineral resources that were locked away under the glaciers. Before they could do so, the Outer Reaches Rebellion occurred, and Saffel was left to its own devices. With no support from the core worlds near Terra and ill-equipped to deal with the arctic temperatures, many of the first wave of colonists died in Saffel's harsh winter. Those who survived did so by moving to the equatorial region, where it was (relatively) warmer. Able to scratch out a meager existence, the survivors began forming new smaller towns and cities.[1]

After a century of isolation, a second wave of colonists arrived from the Terran Hegemony. This second wave of colonists landed and claimed the polar cities that had been abandoned by the first colonists. The newly arrived colonists found themselves at odds with the survivors of the first wave, who resented the "intrusion." Tensions ran so high that a small brushfire war broke out between the two groups before the Terran Hegemony could negotiate a truce. Eventually the two groups joined forces, and by the time of the Star League, Saffel was a major exporter of valuable metals and one of the worlds that made up the Lone Star Province of the Hegemony. The other major draw to the world was the Saffel Medical Institute. The information and work done at this institute made Saffel an exporter of medical equipment as well.[1][5]

After the fall of the Star League, the Federated Suns took control of the world. The AFFS used Saffel as a staging area for an assault into the Draconis Combine. In 2787 the Combine retaliated and tried to take the world, but was unsuccessful. Over the centuries of the Succession Wars Saffel was frequently used as a staging area and invasion corridor, but the Federated Suns usually kept control of the world. That changed in the War of 3039, however, when the Draconis Combine finally seized the world.[1]

The Word of Blake used a mixture of their own forces and hired mercenaries to assault and conquer Saffel during the first half of March 3069, incorporating the world forcibly into the Word of Blake Protectorate.[8]

Saffel was evidently liberated by the end of 3077 by allied coalition forces, as the administration of the HPG facility on Saffel had reverted to ComStar by the end of November. However, in early December a press notice was issued by ComStar to other nearby ComStar facilities indicating that the Saffel HPG had been taken offline due to unspecified local technical difficulties.[14]

Saffels has three continents, Awonera, Dowejin and Sophrati, the capital city is Iwanji. It can be found on Dovejin's southern coast.[1]
