Kervil was one of the worlds that was abandoned by the Terran Alliance following the Outer Reaches Rebellion and the Demarcation Declaration of 2242,[2] but by the end of the Reunification War Kervil had become one of the worlds within the Lone Star Province of the Terran Hegemony.[7]

Kervil's surface is mostly covered with water, with multiple volcanic island chains scattered across the world. There are ten large clusters of islands that serve as the planet's "continents", Greater Domanin, Brahn, Northland, Satella, Lesser Domain, Bellas Major, Bellas Minor, Karnophia, Freiholt and Infernius. With such ready access to the planet's core and mineral resources, it's no surprise that the Ozawa Mercantile Association established several offices and mining facilities on the world. After the OMA was absorbed by the Draconis Combine, these mines redirected their output to the Dragon.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Star League[edit]

During the Star League Kervil became one of the leading producers of ferro-fibrous armor and Endo Steel internal structures. During the Reunification War, forces loyal to the Outworlds Alliance attacked the world to destroy these factories. Elements of the SLDF's 138th BattleMech Division were stationed on the world and-despite being outnumbered five to one-attacked the raiders. Their hit and run attacks scattered the raiders and allowed the SLDF forces a direct assault on a renegade DropShip. After destroying the ship, the SLDF unit withdrew to Fort Steel, the main SLDF base located outside Iron City. The SLDF forces held out against the raiders for three days, but eventually the fort and all its defenders fell to the renegades. Unfortunately for the raiders, the 138th's actions delayed them long enough for SLDF reinforcements to arrive. The retreating raiders were destroyed by the heavy guns of the SLDF WarShips.

Succession Wars[edit]

Three hundred years later, the Battle of Kervil is often compared to the Battle of Saragarhi, the Battle of Thermopylae, and the Battle of the Alamo. The remains of Fort Steel are a historical monument and open to the public all year. This battle was one of the few to occur on Kervil. During the Succession Wars and Jihad the planet endured only a few raids. The mineral wealth and mining activities weren't disturbed by these raids and Kervil continues to produce material today.

War of 3039[edit]

In the War of 3039 Kervil was assaulted by the Seventh Donegal Guards and Seventeenth Skye Rangers. This allowed the Lyran Commonwealth and Federated Suns forces to isolate Dieron. The LIC officers assigned to this assault also discovered that the Draconis Combine was researching ferro-fibrous armor and Endo Steel construction techniques at the former SLDF factories.[46] In August 3039 when the DCMS counterattacked, the Dragon bypassed Kervil completely. The heavily armed world could have easily held out against a siege, but bypassing it forced the LCAF commander to withdraw to support friendly units on other worlds. Kervil was retaken in December by the DCMS.[47]

Jihad[edit]

During the Jihad Kervil was occupied by forces from the Word of Blake. As the allied coalition created by Devlin Stone began striking against Word of Blake Protectorate worlds the combined Clan Ghost Bear and Clan Snow Raven task force which had agreed to support the coalition struck at a number of Blakist worlds on the 21st of July 3076.[48][49] Kervil was one of the worlds targeted by the Clan Ghost Bear Delta Wave, led by Delta Galaxy - who struck at Kervil and Sabik[50] - while Xi Galaxy took Ko.[51] Simultaneously, the Ghost Bear Alpha Wave struck at Dyev, led by Alpha Galaxy[52] and supported by Omega[53] and Pi Galaxies[54] while the Ghost Bear Beta Wave struck at Lambrecht[55] and Moore.[56][48][49]

Republic Era[edit]

On 9 July 3132, Kervil's Temple of All Paths hosted the ceremony for the ascension of Jonah Levin to Paladin of the Republic.[57]
