Planetary Info

Glengarry is a small, cool world, which has a balanced environment similar to Terra. The planet is located spinward of Terra, and has three major continents: Dalralda, Pictland and Scotia.

Notable Locations

  • Dunkeld - The planetary capital and main settlement of Glengarry on Scotia. The city was in its heyday during the Star League era, and became a center for artisans and philosophers. Many of its buildings were designed in that era, and reflect the peaceful philosophy of its occupants. One of its most notable buildings that survived at least until the 32nd Century is the Municipal Center in West Dunkeld.
  • Castle Hill - This was a military fortification and complex built by the SLDF just outside of Dunkeld. These facilities survived various actions, and once housed the Death Gray Legion mercenary unit. The Word of Blake seized the facilities during the opening moves of the Jihad. The base was reduced to ruins when coalition forces clashed with the Blakists during the liberation of the planet.[2]
  • Gray Death Technologies - Established by former Battle Armor techs of the Gray Death. Gray Death Technologies (GDTech) was established in the mid 3060s as a joint effort between Defiance Industries of Hesperus II and the mercenary techs who originally produced the suits for The Gray Death Legion. It was one of the first and only dedicated Battle Armor production planets in House Steiner until the Jihad, when the factory was badly damaged in 3068.[3][4]

Planet History

Early Years and Colonization

Glengarry discovered after the early colonization efforts of the Terran Alliance. The planet was not settled for host of reasons including the events that led to the Outer Reaches Rebellion. Principally, the planet's atmosphere was tainted with heavy arsenic and cyanide gases, and needed to be cleaned up. The planet was not settled until the beginning of the Star League era, when the Federation of Skye finally finished their terraforming efforts.

The planet's settlers include Federation ethic groups of Canadian, Norwegian, and Scottish in origin. The planet was shown to be rich in ores and fertile lands, for which early colonists established strict environmental laws. The Federation later established Zoning Laws, the prohibited the residents of the planet from settling anywhere outside the planet's main continent, Scotia.[2]

Star League & Succession Wars Eras

As the planet was finally refined, its economy focused on commercial, agricultural, and light industry. As the Star League era progressed, the planet's capital city, Dunkeld, became a hub of trade. The culture of artisans and philosophers that inhabited the planet caused it to be a peaceful land. However, the 28th Century marked the end of that serene peace. The planet's population became larger than it could support, and it depended on trade to support itself. Amaris Coup and the fall of the Star League left the planet to be claimed by Lyran Commonwealth. The Commonwealth now beginning to fight the First Succession War, had no time shift resources to support trade & artistian colony that Glengarry had become. With no real trade, planet's population began to leave, shrinking once over populated planet.

Glengary became light populated world with only small self-sustaining settlements, which did not offer much for employment. Largely ignored by the Succession Houses, the planet was spare much of scorching many military and heavily industrial worlds suffered.

By the Mid-31st Century, the planet started to recover, with arrival of its newly appointed governor, mercenary commander, Grayson Death Carlyle and his mercenary outfit, Gray Death Legion.[5]

Second Skye Rebellion

In April 3056, Glengarry was the target of the Free Skye Movement's 4th Skye Guard. General- Kommandant von Bulow, commander of the large task force of six JumpShips' worth of troops arrived in system to announce the Isle of Skye and Isle was now claiming Glengarry as part of its own. Governor-General DeVries, who was ruling the planet's day-to-day operations while Baron Grayson Carlyle was away with his forces on the Clan border, turned Glengarry over to the Free Skye force. He then arrested Gray Death Legion leading officers on planet, to subject protective custody. However the fight with Glengarry Militia resulted in the death of the Legion its senior officer on planet. Legion personnel not arrested managed to free of DeVrie's men came under command of cadet turn Colonel Alexander Carlyle. Baron's son through aid of Major Davis McCall, began their campaign of guerilla fighting the 4th Skye Guards as they made their landings. Colonel Carlyle utilize the maglev rail lines to allow to move his few company worth of BattleMech and other forces various sites. After winning initial engagements with heavy casualties, Legion was forced to move into hinterlands of Glengarry as the Skye reinforcements made impossible to combat the 4th Skye alone. The Legion forces on Glengarry went to ground for seventh months, until 2nd Battalion of 'Mechs belonging to the Legion arrived on planet after passing the Free Skye blockade. The 2nd Battalion's arrival allowed Colonel Carlyle to move his newly reinforced forces from cat & mouse tactics to striking Skye forces at key cities. These actions managed to free the Glengarry from control of Free Skye as Baron Carlyle arrived with the Northwind Highlanders to free planet.[6]

The Jihad

During the Jihad, Glengarry was raided by Word of Blake forces in December 3069.[7] The then-unknown 18th Division of the Word's Militia struck and destroyed the corporate security force known as Brewer’s Legion. The 18th Division then went on inflict heavy damages and looted the Gray Death Technologies facility that Legion was safeguarding.[8]

In 3075, it was reported that Opacus Venatori's commander Berith was spotted on planet, squashing the remaining resistance forces.[9]

Republic Era

The formation of Republic of the Sphere, brought revival of the planet's flagging ruined economy. Exarch Devlin Stone, residence relocation program brought new citizenry to the planet. The Republican government then help organized for first time in planet's history heavier manufacturing industries to be setup in bid to make planet more self-sustaining.[2]

Early Dark Age & Jade Falcon Occupation

In April of 3134, Clan Jade Falcon dispatches Expeditionary forces into Republic's Prefecture IX[10], and soon captures Glengarry in their first thrust to capture Skye.

However, Jade Falcon's Expedition is defeated in August, uses Glengarry as temporary headquarters to the Expedition's Occupation Zone of the Republic.

In October, Steiner Affiliated splinter group, the Stormhammers raid Glengarry as part of the intelligence gather mission.[11] This lead to a Inner Sphere Task Forces consisting of the Stormhammers and Steel Wolves raiding the planet early November. The raid turns into a battle where they ending up facing Jade Falcon leader, Galaxy Commander Malvina Hazen. Malvina and her people ultimately force the Inner Sphere raid force to withdraw from the planet.[12]
