The Rasalhague system is the location of at least one habitable world, Rasalhague VI, and as of June 3152 was the national capital of the Rasalhague Dominion, located in the Rasalhague Province.[3]

System Description

The Rasalhague system contains at least six planets as of 3151. It is located next to the Hermagor and Leoben systems Coreward from Terra.[4]

System History

The Rasalhague system was colonized at some time during the twenty-fourth century.[5][4]

Planetary History

Early History

Colonists from the Federal Democratic Republics of Finland, Norway and Sweden emigrated in significant numbers after the end of the War Damage Tax payments levied on them as a part of the international rebuilding effort following the Second Soviet Civil War. Choosing a world far from Terra and the oppressive bureaucracy that went with it, the first colonists left in the mid-twenty-third century and within sixty years had settled Rasalhague and eight other nearby worlds.[5] In the late twenty-third century these worlds created a joint government to oversee the development of the worlds, creating the Rasalhague Consortium. Contact with other interstellar nations led to the Consortium evolving into the short-lived Principality of Rasalhague, prior to the Principality being conquered by the Draconis Combine in the early to mid-twenty-fourth century.[5]

In 2333, the Draconis Combine invasion of the Principality of Rasalhague was in full swing, with the Combine forces led by Urizen Kurita leapfrogging from world to world in a relentless campaign. Much to the surprise of the citizens of the Principality, the Combine forces actually bypassed Rasalhague in 2333/2334 despite it being the capital world of the Principality - instead, the Combine forces continued to annex worlds such as New Bergen instead.[6]

Star League

At some time during the Star League era, an armed group almost certainly in the employ of a Lyran corporation seized control of one of Rasalhague's recharging stations. They were attempting to disrupt the exports of Draconis Combine products into the Lyran Commonwealth. The 168th BattleMech Division of the Star League Defense Force responded to this act by deploying a battalion of BattleMechs to the surface of the station. With the station's defenses unable to fire upon the SLDF machines, the attackers were able to secure the station with minimal loss of life and collateral damage.[40]

Clan Invasion

The planet was conquered by Clan Wolf after the Battle of Rasalhague in July 3050, with most of the fighting taking place in the national capital of Reykjavik. The Wolves, impressed with the Rasalhagians' devotion to their heritage, willingly assisted in rebuilding the heavily damaged capital, which became a fusion of Clan and Inner Sphere cultures.[24][28]

After a war with Clan Hell's Horses that had been instigated by the Wolves, and as part of efforts to further integrate its Clan and native Spheroid populations, the Ghost Bear Dominion retaliated in 3066 by mounting its own invasion of Rasalhague. The planet was taken by a combined force of Ghost Bear warriors from Alpha Galaxy and Rasalhagian natives from the First Rasalhague Bears. With the allocation of resources to improve Rasalhague's infrastructure, and the aid of Ragnar, the popular heir to the throne of Rasalhague, the Bears were able to win the planet's inhabitants over.[28]

Jihad

By the mid-3070s, Rasalhague had been built up into a major shipping and manufacturing hub of the Dominion.[28]
