System Description[edit]
The Icar system is located near the Star's End and Chateau systems and is Coreward from Terra.[3]
System History[edit]
Icar was one of seven worlds settled by colonists from the Rim Worlds Republic between 2334 and 2338 as an attempt by Maxwell Rowe to create a buffer zone between the Republic, the Draconis Combine, and the Tamar Pact.[4]

Planetary History[edit]
Star League Era[edit]
Icar was a part of the Apollo Province of the Rim Worlds Republic and was conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth during the 2773–2775 Republic-Commonwealth War.[15]
Third Succession War[edit]
Icar was one of the diversionary raids launched by the Draconis Combine in 2866 in order to divert Lyran forces from the Federation of Skye.[21]
Raven van Hauten, with his Icar Militia company and its lance of Von Luckner heavy tanks, defended Icar against a raid by pirate Redjack Ryan in 3017. He staged a devastating ambush on the pirates, which ultimately caused them to withdraw with heavy damage, having gained nothing from their attack.[46]
Clan Invasion[edit]
Icar was conquered by Clan Wolf during Operation REVIVAL in March 3050, invading the planet with Supernova First and Second along with Alpha Assault Star of the Fourth Wolf Guards. They were opposed by the Third Regiment of the Twelfth Star Guards, commanded by Colonel Hannah Caitlin, backed up by the Third Icar Armored Brigade. The initial Wolf assault was swift, quickly overrunning the Star Guards' Second Battalion just minutes after securing their landing zones, and when Colonel Caitlin attempted to counterattack at Pofadder's Gully her advance was repulsed. The Star Guards attempted to retreat offworld but were stopped when Elementals boarded their DropShips at Cuanger and forced their surrender.[47]
Jihad[edit]
Icar would be conquered again during the Jihad when Clan Hell's Horses launched an invasion of Clan Wolf holdings in the Inner Sphere in early 3071, acquiring holdings for their own relocation to Spheroid space. The first wave of attacks captured four worlds; the second wave captured another four, of which Icar was one. The first wave was launched between 21 and 28 February 3071, with the second wave falling somewhere between the end of the first wave and the 7th of April.[37]
Dark Age[edit]
In 3122, the Sarkon's Bloody-Handed pirate group raided three cities and took several thousand civilians as slaves as well as large amounts of precious metals and gems before fleeing. The Eighty-fifth BattleMech Cluster from Clan Hell's Horses Kappa Galaxy responded to the raid and pursued the escaping pirates.[48]
Military Deployment[edit]

- First Republican Guards (shared with Malibu, Derf, and Wotan)[49]
2821[edit]
3025[edit]
3028[edit]
- Thirtieth Lyran Guards[52]
Geography[edit]
According to the (apocryphal) novel Wahnsinn und Methode, the planet of Icar (as of 2598) had 75% of its surface covered by water and had two continents with environments spanning the range from jungles to deserts to tundra, ideal for combat training purposes. Two mountain ranges are mentioned: The Dominarius Mountains, featuring a high plateau, and the much smaller and lower Bellisardes which form a roughly equal-sided triangle. Icar's Capital city is Athena Magna.
In the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries High Reward Quest "X Marks the Spot," Icar is depicted as a glacial ice biome with good visibility.[58]
