Planetary History[edit]

Rim Worlds Republic[edit]

The colony of Treeline was founded by 2338,[50] and by 2571 was a part of the Apollo Province of the Rim Worlds Republic[4][5] and considered an Eden-like planet.[51]

With the Rim Worlds Republic in a state of civil war from 2575 onward, the Star League was forced to send troops to restore the authority of First Consul Gregory Amaris. The operation was named Operation MAILED FIST and began with a troop buildup along the border between the Lyran Commonwealth and the Rim Worlds Republic; in 2579 military operations began, and Treeline was one of the first targets. Anticipating a quick victory over the Eighth Amaris Dragoons, who had sided with the Rim Provisional Government, the Star League Defense Force deployed the Sixteenth Mechanized Infantry Division from VI Corps to conquer Treeline.[51]

The deployment of the Sixteenth was deliberately provocative, as the SLDF wanted to gauge the abilities of the Republican forces; the initial landings were uncontested, with the Sixteenth quickly seizing Felsonville and with it Treeline's administration and communication hubs. The Eighth Dragoons refused to surrender to the Sixteenth and instead began a campaign of raids against the more numerous Sixteenth; while the Sixteenth had the advantage of both numbers and actual BattleMech forces, the Eighth—being a regiment consisting of infantry and armor—used their knowledge of the local terrain and their significant light armor forces to repeatedly launch quick strikes. The Eighth's campaign extended the battle for control of Treeline significantly beyond the SLDF's initial estimate of three weeks; it was three months before the SLDF felt that it had control of the worlds, and it was late December—a full seven months since the initial occupation of Felsonville—before the last Republican organized forces were rounded up.[51]

Fall of the Star League[edit]

Treeline was conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth during the 2773–2775 Republic-Commonwealth War.[14][52]

Succession Wars[edit]

The planet was gifted to the commanding officer of the Stealths, Colonel Raymond Winfield, by Archon Elizabeth Steiner after the Stealths' destruction during the conquest of Sakhalin in 2863 and renamed Winfield in his honor.[53]

Clan Invasion[edit]

Winfield was conquered by Clan Jade Falcon during the First Wave of Operation Revival in March 3050. The Fifth Battle Cluster faced off against Winfield's Regiment and the Winfield Militia Brigade, although faulty intelligence cause the Jade Falcons to underestimate their opponents. This resulted in the Clan's landing zones being surrounded and almost overrun by the defenders, with the tide of battle being turned after Star Colonel Evak Mattlov managed to break through the enemy lines with a team of Elementals. Forced to make an orderly retreat, Winfield's Regiment managed to organize the surviving militia into an effective resistance movement before escaping off-world.[54]

In 3052, Winfield's Brigade raided Winfield with the official objective to destroy the Kerensky Munitions and Armaments factory that the Falcons had constructed by refitting the old Fairfield Munitions plant and with the hidden objective of rescuing those prisoners still interned by the Jade Falcons. Using deception, and using a batchall as bait, the unit was able to success in both objectives.[55]

Jihad[edit]

In June 3071, Winfield was briefly taken by Clan Ice Hellion[56] during the Ice Hellion campaign led by Khan Raina Montose to carve an occupation zone from Clan Jade Falcon space. The initial invasion destroyed Jade Falcon Industrial Complexes 245 & 249. Winfield was retaken six months later by Clan Jade Falcon's Alpha Galaxy, who struck at the planet in December 3071[35][57][58] and finished recapturing it in late January 3072.[36][58]

Two years later, Winfield was briefly gifted to Clan Hell's Horses as part of a pact between them and the Falcons.[38] However, the planet was apparently reclaimed by the Falcons just one year later and remained under Falcon control for at least another decade.[39][43]

Dark Age[edit]

At some point between 3085 and 3130, Winfield fell under Hell's Horses suzerainty.[44]

Please view the reference page for information regarding their canonicity.

The database of the (apocryphal) 1989 video game MechWarrior, set around the year 3025, gives a population of 1.150 billion for Winfield and describes the environment as "tropical" (out of only three broad impressions of planetary environments given in the game, these being "desert," "ice," and "tropical"). The description one-liner reads "Agricultural world with long growing season."

In the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries High Reward Quest "X Marks the Spot," Winfield is depicted as a sulfurous biome with good visibility.[68]
