The Alcor system was the location of at least one habitable world, Alcor III, and as at 3151 was located in the Galatean League.[2][3]

System Description

The Alcor system has a variable primary star, making the presence of a habitable world with an atmosphere in the system unusual.[1]

System History

The Alcor system was settled during the First Exodus from Terra,[4] subsequently joining the Federation of Skye, and then the Lyran Commonwealth when the Commonwealth formed.[5]

Alcor III

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Alcor III - more commonly known simply as Alcor - is the third planet in the Alcor system.

Planetary History

Many mining companies landed on Alcor to exploit the easily-accessible mineral resources stored in the planet's crust. Although these were productive enterprises, the little arable land on the world lacked specific trace elements that are required for human health. As a result, the Alcorans became reliant on trading ships that brought produce from other worlds. This constant need for trade made Alcor something of a trading hub despite its out-of-the-way location.[1]

Following the invasion of the Free Worlds League by the Skye and Bolan Provinces of the Lyran Alliance in what was termed Operation ÜBERSCHATTEN, Marshall Jeremy Brett took command of the local Free Worlds League Military and launched a counteroffensive, under the name Operation BROKEN FIST. BROKEN FIST went beyond simply attempting to recapture worlds that the Lyrans had seized, striking into Lyran space at numerous worlds. Alcor was one of the worlds hit and was attacked by the League forces on the 20th of September 3068. The League would keep control of Alcor until the 7th of January 3069, when Lyran Alliance forces recaptured the planet.[6]

Geography

The variable star at the heart of the Alcor system was responsible for Alcor III being a mountainous, geologically active world.[1]
