Reunification War[edit]

Like the majority of the Taurian Concordat systems, Midale was conquered by the Star League Defense Force during the Reunification War campaign against the Concordat, which the SLDF dubbed Operation BULL RUN. Midale was spared the immense death toll and destruction that many other Taurian worlds suffered, however; this was due to General Lord Damien Onaga having replaced Field Marshal Amos Forlough as the overall Commanding Officer of the SLDF units deployed on BULL RUN in 2590. Onaga's approach to conquering Midale saw him deliberately rotating troops[7] from III Corps and XI Corps[53] in and out of battle, giving them an opportunity to blood themselves, while limiting his campaign to purely military targets, rather than cities and civilian infrastructure. This made the conquest of Midale a slower campaign than many previous planetary assaults, but inflicted far less damage, and with much of the planetary garrison having already been stripped away by the Taurian Defense Force to fight in other systems during earlier years of the war, the battle for Midale was over by the end of December 2590.[7]

Star League[edit]

The Star League Defense Force Fifth Fleet used the Midale system as their homeport. The orbital facilities, while basic, were enough to keep the fleet resupplied while handling minor repairs. Most of the command and control facilities were located on world while the flagship of the Fifth Fleet, the McKenna-class battleship SLS Duke of York was regularly in orbit.[54]

The Jihad[edit]

Midale was attacked by Taurian Defense Force troops on 15 February 3070; the TDF units were intended to be reinforcements for the Taurian forces fighting in the Pleiades Cluster, and the attack on Midale resulted in all of the TDF reinforcements being destroyed by the defending forces.[55]

In response to the asteroid bombardment of Taurus and evidence that implicated the Federated Suns, the Taurian Concordat launched a second invasion of the Federated Suns during the Jihad. Midale was an early target, captured during late June 3074. The Taurian conquest of Midale involved using nuclear weapons against AFFS pickets, as did the campaigns on Brockway and Bromhead, resulting in more than ten million Federated Suns civilian and military deaths.[41][42] Many of these nuclear weapons were launched from the Quixote-class frigate TCS Vendetta, which was responsible for an estimated six million deaths on Midale alone.[56]
