Jump Jet
Description
Jump jets enable 'Mechs to vault into the air, drawing power from their fusion engine to achieve this. This technology was developed in 2471 by the Terran Hegemony[1], thirty years after the production of their first 'Mech, the Mackie. A 'Mech may have more than one jump jet installed, increasing the maximum jump distance with each additional one, but each jet takes up space and weight as normal. The weight of the jump jets is proportionate to the weight of the 'Mech they are installed on, probably due to the increased power needed to move a heavier object. The maximum number of jump jets that a 'Mech can carry is related to it's maximum speed.
A jumping 'Mech is harder to hit, but produces heat with each jump. The 'Mech's own accuracy is also negatively affected by jumping. A 'Mech with jump jets can perform a combat maneuver known as Death from Above, which involves it landing on an opponent.
Other units, such as battle armor, can also use jump jets which function in the same way.
