Planetary History
Succession Wars
The Capellan Confederation annexed the former Terran Hegemony world of Tigress after the fall of the Star League; the well-educated population of the planet and the highly industrialized economy made Tigress a significant asset, and House Liao declared the planet to be one of the personal fiefdoms of the Liao family. The Confederation was unable to prevent the Paulina Weapons facility located on Tigress and responsible for producing Cyrano-class gunships from being destroyed in the First Succession War, however.[2]
Strongly associated with Tigress was the Laurel family, several generations of whom had earned fame even outside the Confederation for the actions of the all-female mercenary unit they supported, Laurel's Legion. Some still referred to Tigress as Laurel's World even into the Dark Age, and in recognition of the exemplary military leadership provided by the Laurel family House Liao transferred control of Tigress to the Laurels after the Third Succession War. The Fourth Succession War saw Tigress invaded and conquered by the Federated Suns, however; Laurel's Legion fought against the invaders, but switched sides when a key battle being fought on the world put the huge fusion power plants key to the standard of living of those on the planet in direct risk.[2]
The Federated Suns and later the Federated Commonwealth retained control over Tigress until the Jihad.[2]
Jihad
During the Jihad the Word of Blake incorporated Tigress into their Protectorate. The allied coalition assembled by Devlin Stone assaulted Tigress on the 21st of May 3077 only for the Delta Galaxy of Clan Nova Cat to take heavy casualties when a series of dirty nukes were detonated along a major transportation hub and in a number of surrounding cities. The nuclear attacks inflicted heavy casualties on the Tigress Protectorate Militia as well, and were eventually determined to have been orchestrated by Capellan guerrillas rather than the Blakists, who had been the initial suspects.[7]
The fusion plants essential to Tigress were damaged during the Jihad, with more than three-quarters of their total production capacity destroyed; the Laurel family was forced into hiding by the Blakists, and the family remained out of sight until the incorporation of Tigress into the Republic of the Sphere restored the family to power.[2]
The Dark Age
Under the renewed rule of the Laurel family Tigress rebuilt, with much of the planet's industrial base focusing on high-margin products to make the most of the reduced output from the planetary fusion plants. Underpinned by the production of such goods as exoskeleton suits and civilian helicopters, Tigress became a crossroads world within Prefecture IV; by 3130 much of the trade, higher education and scientific research undertaken within Prefecture IV was due to Tigress.[2]
