System Description[edit]
The Amity system is located near the Alkes and Gniezno systems[4] and has a class M2V primary star. During the thirty-first century a recharge station was in place at the nadir jump point.[1][2]
System History[edit]
The Amity system was colonized at some point between the late twenty-third and early twenty-fourth centuries.[5][6]

Amity II - more commonly known simply as Amity - is the second planet in the Amity system. Lacking any moons, Amity has been home to a number of industrial facilities belonging to various companies including Imstar Aerospace.
Planetary History[edit]
Early History[edit]
Amity joined the Free Worlds League in 2335. For most of the first 450 years it was a peaceful world that had a great deal of industrial capacity. In fact the variety of produced goods ranged from the Galleon light tank to recording studio equipment and musical instruments.[1]
Although Amity joined the Free Worlds League in 2335, by 2416 it was considered to be a semi-independent world with Lyran leanings; as such, it was one of the worlds conquered by Captain-General Peter Marik between the Lyran attack on Dieudonné and the armistice in 2418. The Commonwealth targeted Amity when they launched a new offensive against the Free Worlds League in 2420; the imposition of the War Powers Act by the League Parliament led to Peter Marik rejecting calls to return to service as Captain-General, and Parliament chose one of Peter's officers, General Joseph Stewart as Captain-General instead. Stewart was a capable officer but lacked the grasp of strategy needed for interstellar war, allowing the Lyrans to score several successes including the capture of Amity.[6]
Succession Wars[edit]
After the start of the Succession Wars Amity's fortunes changed. By 3025 the world had been raided no less than 23 times and actually been captured by the Lyran Commonwealth twice. These successive raids and occupation by a foreign power destroyed most of the industrial capability of the planet. This in turn led to a planetwide economic recession. Fortunately for Amity, in 2863 Captain-General Phillipa Marik sent a team of engineers and scientists to Amity to help the population rebuild the industrial capability. This resulted in a dramatic improvement in the quality of life of the average Amity citizen.[1]
Amity was one of the worlds to sign the Concord of Danais in 2966 joining the Silver Hawks[43] (a coalition of independent worlds in the Free Worlds League).
Amity is also noteworthy as the home of Sir Charles Smith, a member of Parliament who called for peace between the Free Worlds League and the Lyran Commonwealth. He wrote a book, The Amity Initiative, that found widespread circulation in the Commonwealth and Federated Suns. He also led the negotiations that resulted in a peace treaty between Amity and the Lyran world Rahne.[44]
At some point between 3007 and 3017, Amity was the site of a series of battles between Lyran Commonwealth and Free Worlds League forces; the mercenary unit known as Snord's Irregulars were active during the battles, assigned to perform a holding action to allow other units to escape. Although several units did escape the operation against the Free Worlds League forces was considered a failure - the only notable failure in the early history of the Irregulars - but the Irregulars did manage to recover the lost Jewel of Sumatra, something that was considered to be a personal victory.[45]
Battle of Kendrew's Crossing[edit]
- See more in Battle of Kendrew's Crossing
One particularly fierce clash in 3020 which became known as the Battle of Kendrew's Crossing nearly destroyed the First Regulan Hussars and Seventeenth Skye Rangers.[46]
The Jihad[edit]
In response to raids and assaults on worlds within the Word of Blake Protectorate, the Blakists launched raiding parties against various worlds around the Protectorate border in early September 3076. Making use of weapons of mass destruction to augment the damage inflicting, the raiding parties - few of which were larger than a single Level III struck at the worlds of Algorab, Alnasi, Amity, Bordon, Connaught, Hunan, Kessel, New Hessen, New Kyoto, Ronel, St. Andre, Styk, Tsitsang and Wei. Of the worlds hit, the Capellan Confederation took the brunt of the fighting.[47][48]
The (apocryphal) German BattleTech novel Phoenix is set on Amity for the greater part, narrating the exploits of a mercenary unit defending Amity against a Lyran assault in 3033. The book does not provide a map, but includes a number of tidbits about the world:
- Ice world with a climate and landscape similar to Tharkad. It is very cold and stormy, with frequent blizzards at typically around -50 centigrades, so that it is extremely difficult to operate aerospace fighters (the narrative is set in January 3033, but it is described as Summer on Amity)
- At least 3 spaceports besides Freewheel; one spaceport near Ruhr
- Named places: Lee-Glacier, Sheridan mountains, Grant mountains (with Mt. Franklin the highest mountain there until it broke up in the 2700s, giving rise to a local legend)

Geography[edit]
Amity has three major continents named Ashmolean, Bodlein and Cambridge.[2]
Planetary Locations[edit]
- Freewheel: city and spaceport.[1]
- Oxbridge: city.[1]
- Ruhr: city.[1]
- Stryker: planetary capital, located on Cambridge[2] and an island city large enough to be described as a megalopolis in the thirty-first century.[1]
- St. Cyril’s Last House of Worship
