Planetary History[edit]

Early History[edit]

Slocum has had a violent history. After it was settled, an armed force from the Tikonov Grand Union attacked the world and massacred many of the world's inhabitants. Because of its position as a border world, raids and battles between nations frequently occurred on the world.[1]

By the 2350s the Tikonov Grand Union—of which Slocum was a member—was experiencing severe turmoil due to internal economic problems and external conflicts. Having lost a war with the Terran Hegemony over the worlds of the Chisholm Protectorate in the late 2330s,[47] the Grand Union then found itself battling the Federated Suns in the 2340s.[2] The nearby Sarna Supremacy looked to capitalize on the Grand Union's problems by annexing various Grand Union worlds, and elements of the 141st and 173rd Sarna Shock Brigades landed on Slocum and the nearby world of Algol in 2351.[2] In 2358, the new president of the Capellan Commonality, Seluk Tucas, declared himself the arbitrator of the dispute between the Supremacy and the Grand Union and awarded ownership of Algol, Slocum and Azha to the Supremacy;[3] despite this, by 2366 Slocum would be a member of the Tikonov Grand Union again.[4]

Star League Era[edit]

It wasn't until Slocum became part of the Terran Hegemony and the Star League that Slocum started to prosper. Jointly administered by the Star League and the Capellan Confederation, Slocum received a Castle Brian on each of the four continents. During the Amaris Civil War, however, these fortresses were destroyed and half the population had died of starvation before being liberated by the Star League Defense Force in 2774.[1] At the same time, the continent of Carnocial became a nuclear wasteland unable to support life. Even after the Jihad, lingering radiation prevents anyone from settling on that continent.[1] In 2783 the Capellan Confederation annexed Slocum.[12]

Succession Wars[edit]

The Capellan Confederation tried to rebuild the world during the course of the Succession Wars, but frequent raids made that difficult. After the Federated Suns took the world in the Fourth Succession War they continued the rebuilding efforts, taking advantage of the booming economy created by the Federated Commonwealth alliance.[1]

The Jihad[edit]

During the Jihad the Word of Blake simply performed orbital bombardments on the world to destroy its defenders. Then they landed their attack forces.[1] The Word of Blake invasion fell on Slocum during the last two weeks of October 3069, and soon saw the world incorporated into the Word of Blake Protectorate.[37] In a horrific echo of previous events, when the Coalition forces liberated the world they found that once again half the population had been killed. As the world entered the care of The Republic most of the inhabitants were leaving the world permanently, seeking a better life on other worlds as soon as their finances allowed them to leave.[1]
