Planetary History[edit]
First Succession War[edit]
The Capellan Confederation annexed the former Terran Hegemony world of Tigress after the fall of the Star League; the well-educated population of the planet and the highly industrialized economy made Tigress a significant asset, and House Liao declared the planet to be one of the personal fiefdoms of the Liao family. The Confederation was unable to prevent the Paulina Weapons facility located on Tigress and responsible for producing Cyrano-class gunships from being destroyed in the First Succession War, however.[2]
Third Succession War[edit]
Strongly associated with Tigress was the Laurel family, several generations of whom had earned fame even outside the Confederation for the actions of the all-female mercenary unit they supported, Laurel's Legion.[2] Chancellor Tormax Liao granted Tigress to the family of Erika Laurel as a personal fiefdom in perpetuity in recognition of her abilities; Erika was one of the best military leaders to serve the Confederation during the Third Succession War. At the end of the Third Succession War the citizens of Tigress enjoyed the highest per capita income and the highest standard of living to be found in the Confederation, thanks in part to the high level of industrialization on the planet despite Tigress' small size. Towards the end of the Third Succession War Tigress gained additional defenders in the form of Warrior House Hiritsu, who relocated to the planet.[57]
Fourth Succession War[edit]
The Fourth Succession War saw Tigress invaded and conquered by the Federated Suns. Laurel's Legion fought against the invaders, but switched sides when a key battle being fought on the world put the huge fusion power plants key to the standard of living of those on the planet in direct risk. The Federated Suns and later the Federated Commonwealth retained control over Tigress until the Jihad. Some still referred to Tigress as Laurel's World even into the Dark Age.[2]
Jihad[edit]
During the Jihad, the Word of Blake incorporated Tigress into their Protectorate. The allied coalition assembled by Devlin Stone assaulted Tigress on 21 May 3077 only for the Delta Galaxy of Clan Nova Cat to take heavy casualties when a series of dirty nukes were detonated along a major transportation hub and in a number of surrounding cities. The nuclear attacks inflicted heavy casualties on the Tigress Protectorate Militia as well, and were eventually determined to have been orchestrated by Capellan guerrillas rather than the Blakists, who had been the initial suspects.[46] Local press in the Federated Suns was quick to place blame for the nuclear detonations on the Confederation after the event,[58] and Tigress wasn't the only world to be struck—a similar incident occurred on Nanking.[59] Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao blamed both incidents on Stone's Coalition publicly in an address to the Confederation on 20 April 3077, claiming that Stone's forces had attacked Capellan troops engaged in liberating both worlds from the Blakists.[60]
The fusion plants essential to Tigress were damaged during the Jihad, with more than three-quarters of their total production capacity destroyed; the Laurel family was forced into hiding by the Blakists, and the family remained out of sight until the incorporation of Tigress into the Republic of the Sphere restored the family to power.[2]
Dark Age[edit]
Under the renewed rule of the Laurel family Tigress rebuilt, with much of the planet's industrial base focusing on high-margin products to make the most of the reduced output from the planetary fusion plants. Underpinned by the production of such goods as exoskeleton suits and civilian helicopters, Tigress became a crossroads world within Prefecture IV; by 3130 much of the trade, higher education and scientific research undertaken within Prefecture IV was due to Tigress.[2]
Military Deployment[edit]
Geography[edit]
In the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries Kestrel Lancers Missions, Tigress is twice depicted as a jungle swamp biome with first poor visibility, and later good visibility.[69]
